How to Deploy HP Drivers and BIOS Updates via Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager

I have enabled the HP Client Catalog for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager.

I selected the 3 HP models I support. Z820, Z840 and Z8 G4.

So I now have the metadata for Drivers and Bios for all 3 HP Models grouped together in SCCM.

What do  I do now?

Since these updates are not separated out by model, do I just make one package and deploy it to all 3 HP Models?

Will each model install only the updates intended for it?

Hi smith2487,

Did you get any soultion to this? I am also looking for the same solution. We have a customer where we have large chunk of HP devices and managing their drivers are really a tricky task. We tried HP support assistance, but that did not help as it has some user interfaces which may confuse users which may eventually end up piling up service desk tickets.

If you have any solution, that will be great help.

HPIA or Subscription - recommended method?

Not to bring an old thread back from the grave, but the subject exactly matches what I was about to start. So here's as good as anywhere.

My org is adopting SCCM. We were using ZENworks Configuration Manager. Under ZEN, I delivered HP updates using HP Image Assistant in a manner comparable to a task sequence; it ran during imaging, and it ran on a monthly schedule thereafter. This required calling it with PowerShell to properly handle the various exit codes HPIA produces but it's at a point of being pretty well behaved and useful to our org.

I've been trying to get it to work in SCCM, without success. Only Packages permit the monthly update cycle method, from what I can see, and they don't accept exit codes besides 0 & 3010. I've nonetheless got it to work well enough through Software Centre but it consistently throws unacceptable exit codes in an OSD Task Sequence, even if wrapped in a script that ends with "exit 0".

Am I barking up the wrong tree here - should I be using an update catalogue subscription, as the original poster did? What's best practice in SCCM for getting HP updates delivered?

Re: How to Deploy HP Drivers and BIOS Updates via Microsoft S...

Learned out how to do it. Really basic SCCM trick I wasn't aware of; you can get SCCM to take custom exit codes on a Package if you copy the content to the endpoint then run the exe as a "Run Command Line" or "Run PowerShell" step.

So, HPIA now working fine in an OSD TS. Very happy about that. Wonder if subscribed drivers is a recommended go-to, though, or is it really just up to us the customers?
