Re: HPIA 1040 G6: SP113715 WacomAES failure

Hi! -- Not to highjack your thread (I don't have this particular issue nor even that same PC model), but do you have additional logs under C:\ProgramData\HP\logs? Maybe an UWP folder created about the same time SP113715 was installed?

I believe Error 183 you can see in InstallCMDWrapper.log comes from DISM failing to add the msixbundle from the softpaq to your Windows image.

(I'm having, I think, a similar issue with other softpaqs for other computermodels; those softpaqs contain appxbundle files which produce an Error 183 by DISM. On my devices, there is a C:\ProgramData\HP\logs\UWP folder with two additional DISM-created logs that might be useful.)

Re: HPIA 1040 G6: SP113715 WacomAES failure

Thanks for that log location, will take a loot... I think it has to do with how HPIA and the package runs...

Got the error on my laptop using HPIA, manually installed using the exe and received a different error 1168 in installcmdwrapper.log.  Restart and rerun of HPIA then detects installed.   Will have to try on other devices.

Re: HPIA 1040 G6: SP113715 WacomAES failure

So able to get around this by manually running the exe...

Noticed some different in the programdata\hp\logs\wacomAESDigitizer.log  The DISM log seemed to show similar errors in failed vs successful install.

Re: HPIA 1040 G6: SP113715 WacomAES failure

So in the installdriver.cmd saw this which seems to prompt the preinstall link in the failed attempts/logs...

if not exist ..\..\NOINF.FLG if exist "c:\system.sav\tweaks" if exist "c:\system.sav\flags\Proteus.FLG" (
echo ***INFO*** For Preinstall, we've already injected the driver offline --^> skip the installation here. >> "%DRV_Log%"

seems might be something causing the install to skip?

Re: HPIA 1040 G6: SP113715 WacomAES failure

The "InstallDriver.cmd" script injects the Wacom drivers in your live environment, calling 'pnputil.exe /add-driver ........' a couple of times. This whole injection block is skipped if one of the folloginf condition is met -- so you should be able to identify why it has been skipped on your affected devices:

  1. there is no "NOINF.FLG" file at the root of your install folder; or
  2. the folder (or file?) "C:\System.sav\tweaks" exists; or
  3. the file "C:\System.sav\flags\Proteus.FLG" exists.

If neither of these conditions has been encountered, and no driver was injected, then that's not the expected behavior.

As for the DISM error, look under "c:\programdata\hp\logs\UWP". There should be two logs "WacomAESDigitizer.log" and "WacomAESDigitizer_DISM.log"; the latter should provide the most detailed information why DISM did produce an 183 error code.

Re: HPIA 1040 G6: SP113715 WacomAES failure

Agree, the part though that gets me is they seem to be injected if I manually run the sp (which extracts and runs from c:\swsetup) but appeared to fail via HPIA based on those rules.   Or at least the HPIA evalutation for the SP fails.

Will try and recreate the scenario...

Re: HPIA 1040 G6: SP113715 WacomAES failure

Ok so ran into another one in the field...  This one looked to inject drivers and after restart did properly detect and not reapply recommondendation for the wacom.

This run through seemed to not have the non-detection issue I have seen on 2 other devices, so that is good:)

Though HPIA did still get a Error code = 9537 (183 in the driver logs) for the specific driver and HPIA reported back 3020.

Looks like the package fails since the UWP is older then exising????

Looking like I will have to flag the HPIA 3020 as success and force a restart.  Though if there is an actual issue, this will put our clients into a reboot loop cycle... :(

Re: HPIA 1040 G6: SP113715 WacomAES failure

Yup, this is what I get from your WacomAESDigitizer_DISM.log log file:

Msg:[Failed while adding package WacomTechnologyCorp.HPPenSettings_7.7.25.0_neutral_~_ss941bf8mfs8a since an equal or higher version of the package, WacomTechnologyCorp.HPPenSettings_7.7.29.0_neutral_~_ss941bf8mfs8a, already exists]

DISM's error 183 would mean that a higher release of the WacomTechnologyCorp.HPPenSettings package is already installed, thus cannot downgrade/overwrtie the program's files.

And yes, as you mentionned, flagging HPIA's return code 3020 as success is quite discutable, since any applied recommendation could produce this RC -- you could potentially report false positive or, worse, cause reboot loops.
