OS printing advances allow deprecation of Mobile Print SDK

2017 was an exciting year for mobile printing. At HP we worked tirelessly to improve the print experience for more users.

For those of you who integrated our mobile print SDK, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your support. By adopting the SDK, you helped us evangelize a streamlined print experience and demonstrate its impact on usage and engagement. As we move forward into the next phase of our print API journey, we are looking to deprecate the Mobile Print SDK by February 28, 2018.

Print now part of Airprint and Oreo

Building off of the SDK's success, we have been collaborating with the iOS and Android teams to enable a more seamless print experience. On Airprint, we are continuing to improve and simplify how users print. For Android, we have just integrate native print into Oreo (and streamlined Nougat printing). With this milestone, Android now has an embedded print plugin, and no longer requires users to download and set up a plug-in before printing. This saves valuable time and vastly improves Android’s current print flow.

HP has worked with industry partners since the SDK was published, and we’re pleased to direct you to improved print experiences available natively in popular mobile OS platforms. As a result, you may continue to use our SDK for your apps including modification, but HP will now halt updating the print SDK and end maintenance efforts.

Print partner appreciation

Thank you for continuing to be part of our print journey. We hope that you will leverage the great resources at iOS and Android. These will be the best options for optimizing your print experience and engaging more users. In the meantime, we invite you to check out other exciting HP technologies, such as 3D printing, immersive computing, and the Mobile Scan SDK.

If you have any questions during this transition period, please reach out to us via email to scott.he@hp.com. Thank you once again for your support. We look forward to working with you to make the future of print even brighter.
