Add New Printer from within hp-toolbox on Fedora Core and Mandriva

Faxing on Ubuntu 6.10, Fedora Core 6 or any OS using PyQT 3.16

NOTE: This has been fixed in HPLIP 1.7.1.

Problem: There is a possible problem with HPLIP and PyQT 3.16 which may cause faxing (and other functionality of HPLIP) to stop working.

Workaround: Faxing should work from the command line. Example:

hp-sendfax -n -p <fax queue> -f <fax number> <files>

Workaround 2: KDEprintfax users can follow this guideline:

Settings
Configure kdeprintfax
System
Fax System: "other"
Command: "hp-sendfax -pPRINTERNAME -f%number -n %files"

HP-Setup on Suse 10.1 - Error: Unable to create print queue, please restart cups and try again.

Problem: Suse 10.1 comes with CUPS 1.1.23 and in some system configurations may cause the above error.

Answer: You may need to upgrade to CUPS 1.2.7--this has resolved this situation on some systems.

Problem: On Fedora Core when click on "Add New Printer" from within the hp-toolbox the administrator password does not prompt.

Answer: There is no work around at this time. Please install your new printer using hp-setup from a terminal window.
