Answer:
The intent of this article is to describe the levels of support available for HP products inside the HPLIP software. Within this document, support is defined as having a named device available within HPLIP and the associated features and technical details of that named device, as well as the use of the Launchpad forum to post inquiries and carry on a dialog with the HPLIP community.
HPLIP software ranks among the leaders in the industry for the sheer number of products it supports. Nearly every HP printer, MFP and AiO introduced over the past 20 years is supported (the few exceptions are Designjets and those products that have yet to be added to the development queue). HP’s goal is to continue to add newly introduced products to this list and NOT to remove older products in order to provide maximum benefit to customers with older HP products.
However, the practicality of supporting this growing list of printers has grown beyond the scope of the HPLIP team’s resource limits. Hundreds of devices will continue to be supported as before (those designated below as “Full” and “Partial”) but as of January 29, 2009 all products designated to be at “End-of-support” will have limited support levels as described below.
Support Level Definitions:
"Full":
All device functions and features which are available from HPLIP are supported, provided your device supports these features. HP personnel monitor Launchpad forum posts and attempt (but cannot guarantee) to answer questions posted for this support class.
See this KB article for full list of HPLIP features.
See this page to check the support level of your product and for a complete list of functions and features your device will deliver with HPLIP.
"Full - End-of-Support":
The HP product has reached the end of support life, meaning the HPLIP solution is considered “As-is”. No further HPLIP code changes will be implemented by HP. While monitoring of Launchpad posts by HP personnel will continue, follow-up by HP personnel on these products will be extremely limited. Community members are encouraged to assist others with issues on these printers. Patches provided to HP to address issues on these products will be considered (but not guaranteed) for inclusion in future HPLIP releases. As of the end-of-support date, device functions and features available from the product and available from HPLIP should continue to function but cannot be guaranteed to continue to work in subsequent HPLIP releases.
See this KB article for full list of HPLIP features.
See this page to check the support level of your product and for a complete list of functions and features your device delivered with HPLIP as of the end-of-support date.
"Partial":
Printing supported but possibly at limited speed or print quality; scanning and/or faxing on some multifunction devices may not be supported by HPLIP. HP personnel monitor Launchpad forum posts and attempt (but cannot guarantee) to answer questions posted for this support class.
